Strong acting and an amazing soundtrack are two good reasons to see Dead Man's Shoes (2004), a genre-bending little film that straddles indie drama and underground horror. For what's been called a "no budget" film, Shane Meadows pulled together some superlative music including Danger Mouse, Smog, Calexico, M. Ward, Aphex Twin, and eight other artists for the soundtrack, and these tracks perfectly capture the bereft mood of the film, especially that of the protagonist, played by Paddy Considine. We especially loved the sequence late in the film that used "Afterlight" by Clayhill.
